Refillable & eco-friendly
You throw a disposable lighter away after 3,000 sparks. A Zippo you simply refill, indefinitely, for a few euros a year. Use only original Zippo lighter fluid: other types affect the cotton wadding and give off an unwanted odour.

Wind-resistant by design
The perforations in the insert let air in from below and block crosswinds. That is no coincidence: it is a proven mechanism that has worked unchanged for nine decades, from mountain camps to ship decks.

Maintenance - Step by step
Refill in five steps.
Open the lighter
Open the lid and pull the insert out of the case. It comes out without any tools.
Lift the felt pad
There is a small felt pad underneath the base. Lift it to reach the cotton wool.
Fill the cotton wool with lighter fluid
Gently drip Zippo lighter fluid onto the cotton wool until it is just saturated. Do not soak it, or the excess will seep out.
Put everything back
Press the felt pad back and slide the insert into the case until you hear it click.
Wait 1 minute, then fire
Give the fluid a moment to spread evenly. Then: one click and you have a flame.

A Zippo has a lifetime warranty and, with normal use, lasts for generations. The lighters have been made in much the same way since 1932 and are fully refillable, so with a little maintenance it simply keeps working.
Check the bottom: a genuine Zippo has a date code, a tight hinge, the springy click of the lid and a neat seam. Buy from a reliable retailer, such as Rokersbenodigdheden.
Always use original Zippo lighter fluid. Other fuels damage the cotton wadding and cause more odour. Available in our store and webshop.
Unscrew the flint screw at the bottom of the insert. Remove the spring and the old flint, insert a new Zippo flint, replace the spring, and tighten the screw. Done in less than a minute.
A filled lighter is not allowed in hand luggage. An empty lighter is sometimes permitted, but rules vary by airline, so always check in advance.
With daily use, on average every 1-2 weeks. The fluid also evaporates when you're not using it, so refill when the flame gets weaker.
